"we can't even use our boat ramps anymore. we'er launching off the banks and everything else to get in the little bit of water that we do have left." local officials estimate the lake is dropping by half a foot a day. "this year it's just killed us." this avid fisherman says ironically the fishing is good right now because of the current pushing the water through falcon dam. the problem, the stock isn't coming back. "as far as re- multiplying, we have a bird problem here too with cormorants. they eat all our little bass. we don't have cover in the lake and with them taking all the water out of the lake we really don't have any cover." the i-b-w-c says it's necessary to keep the water flowing from here. demands for irrigation and municipal water in the valley are high right now. for a town that prides itself on good fishing, and relies on tourism... "you can go to these rv parks and see nothing but for sale signs. everybody's leaving here." he says more businesses have closed down. the hard times continue. "we don't know how long it's going to be before mother nature replaces the water they've taken." the hope is water comes soon. and this lake fills up. in zapata cvp channel 5 news. the people in charge of the dam say water releases could continue through late july.
